Daphne Metland has wide experience in health and lifestyle writing. She has worked in-house on Good Housekeeping and Homes and Gardens magazines and is a former Editor of Parents magazine. She has written freelance for the Sunday Times, The Times, The Telegraph, The Daily Mail, Woman and Home magazine, Real magazine and many others.
Daphne handled the re-launch of babyworld.co.uk in early 1999, designing a completely new content tree, recruiting new writers and experts, introducing new interactive tools and the online antenatal classes.
In 2000 Daphne launched babycentre.co.uk in the UK.
She founded, and was Publishing Director of, the NCT Publishing from 1994 until 1999. During this time she produced the national journal, as well as a bookstall magazine and a range of books. She has contributed to several books and edited two colour hardback titles for the NCT. Her experience in preparing colour titles means that she is able to manage projects through all stages of the process.
She created a range of single-issue paperback books on pregnancy, birth and early parenthood under the banner of the charity. This meant developing a working relationship with the publisher, HarperCollins/Thorsons, deciding the book list; managing budgets and schedules; commissioning authors, editing the books and being involved in marketing and publicity.
